Urgent Pet Animal Hospital sits right on San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito, 94530, just off I-80 in the Moeser Lane shopping center, with plenty of parking and easy access whether you’re coming off the freeway or from one of El Cerrito’s BART stations along the Ohlone Greenway. We’re a short drive for pet owners all over the East Bay, and we regularly see same-day patients from Richmond (94801, 94804, 94805, 94806), Albany (94706, 94707), Kensington (94707, 94708), Berkeley (94702 through 94710), and Emeryville (94608), plus folks coming down from Pinole and San Pablo or up from Oakland. Our owner and lead veterinarian, Dr. Nilanthi Kulasekara, known to clients as Dr. K, has more than 25 years of emergency and urgent care experience

Came here bc my 7 months old puppy was throwing up yellow bile liquid and having a diarrhea after refusing to eat. Dr. Lowe was loving and caring. Staff was also very friendly. I would most definitely come back here. They will throw in everything they could think of why your fur babies are having certain symptoms but use your most common sense and choose wisely.
My dog had a big scary lump in his throat, and my vet couldn't see him for a couple of weeks, so they recommended Urgent Pet. I have been recommending them to everyone ever since. They were fast, comprehensive, incredibly kind to me when I was very stressed out, and no more expensive than my usual vet bills.
I called on a Saturday at maybe 3pm, and they made an appointment with me for the next day at noon (which was both a Sunday and a holiday, so I was so grateful). We were seen on time and were there for a few hours, but I would not expect anything else from urgent care type appointments.
My dog has severe vet anxiety which is a nice way of saying that he will try to destroy anyone who looks at him in a vet office. Everyone at Urgent Pet from the techs to the doctor were so nice about it and patient as they did the first part of the exam. When they decided to do a cytology, they gave him a sedation shot for the procedure and let me stay with him while he got drowsy, which I thought was really nice.
They were very communicative with me about the bill and cleared all expenses with me before proceeding. I was doing a lot of math on the spot to make sure I had everything covered, and they were great about giving me low end to high end estimates and talking it through.
Afterwards they were really communicative with me. The test had a possibility of coming back as something very serious. Thankfully it turned out OK, and they let me know as soon as they had the results even though it was a Saturday morning. And they fielded a few anxiety calls from me in the interim, very graciously.
I will come back here for all future pet emergencies, this was A+ quality of care (for both the dog and for me!).

Definitely the best animal care around. My cat Toby was actually calm and happy to be there because he knew he found the right place.

Can't recommend enough! They were able to get us in quickly, kind staff, vet took her time assessing the situation & reasonably priced. I am so relieved to know this office is close by if we should need urgent care again.
The very best pet clinic in the Bay Area -- most humane, competent, and efficient. Our blind and epileptic cat has been treated with utmost compassion and sincerity by the amazing team of Dr. Audrey and the staff, even when she was at her lowest low. They go out of their way to ensure the best care. Most of all, they are genuinely respectful to the animals (and the humans) and are reasonable people -- something that is lacking is the vet industry in the Bay. We switched over our primary and urgent care to Urgent Pet.
I wish I could give more than 5 stars!! I took my 4-month-old Rottweiler puppy, Bentley here, and I can’t say enough good things about the care we received. From start to finish, they were professional, compassionate, and genuinely caring. They had us wait in the car until Bentley’s parvo test came back to ensure the safety of all the animals, which I really appreciated. Everyone wore proper PPE and you could tell they truly love what they do, and they loved Bentley too! Charisma, his nurse, was phenomenal. She made both Bentley and us feel completely comfortable. She was kind, gentle, incredibly informative, and went above and beyond to make our nervous, sick boy feel better. Truly outstanding. Dr. Buatois, his doctor, was equally amazing. She was so thorough, knowledgeable, and trustworthy, it was clear Bentley was in the best hands.They sent us home with detailed instructions and medications, followed up by email the next day to check on him, and overall just exceeded every expectation. If my pups ever have another urgent issue, we’ll absolutely be coming back here. This was the best experience we could’ve asked for. Highly recommend Urgent Pet to anyone who wants their pets treated with real care and love!!
So glad this place exists! It’s the perfect solution when you need a same day appointment but don’t want to put your pet through the 3+ hour wait at an emergency vet. All the techs here are incredibly kind and knowledgeable. 10 stars!
Our dog had a dog bite and we were able to make an appointment the same day and bring her in to get stitched up. She healed great and the removal process for the stitches was quick and easy
